Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde wishes to keep a hold of Ivan Rakitic amidst speculation that the midfielder is a Summer transfer window target for Inter according to a report from Spanish newspaper Sport.

Valverde “does not conceive the team without the participation of the Croatian national team player and deems him as an essential piece in his plans,” their report reads.

Despite the fact he will soon turn 31, Rakitic has certainly not lost his appeal and is also understood to have drawn interest from French giants Paris St. Germain as per various sources.

Clubs appreciate his attention to every little detail and the fact that he has looked after himself physically throughout his career.

Valverde has expressed his desire to keep Rakitic around both in public and in private but if Barcelona’s president does not stick to the promise of a new contract, it will make Rakitic determined to leave the club where he has played his football since 2014.
