Andrea Ranocchia shared his delight at scoring during Inter’s 4-0 rout of Rapid Vienna at San Siro, a result that secures Inter their place in the Europa League round of 16.

“I am happy to have scored and contributed towards the victory and us progressing to the next round,” he told the gathered reporters in the mixed-zone post-match.

Ranocchia was then asked about what he thinks of the Mauro Icardi situation but insisted that the team have more important things to think about.

“We have to think about playing what’s going on is between Mauro and the club. We have to focus on what we have to do, because it is already complicated enough as is and we can not be distracted by other events.”

“The goal is to qualify for the Champions League by finishing third or higher, and then get to the final of the Europa League.

“There are other teams there ready to overtake us and we must ensure that this does not happen.”

Ranocchia was then asked about what he thinks of the recent change in captain’s.

“As Handanovic said, It does not matter who wears the armband, with all due respect to it,” he said.

“We require many leaders and there must be many captains, I have already said in the past what I think, and I keep thinking about it.”

Ranocchia’s passion for the club was clear to see as he celebrated by pounding the badge and he spoke on where this came from.

“I consider myself an Interista and a great professional and this makes for a winning combination. An Interista was born to suffer, but when you score, you win the games and bring home the results and, hopefully soon, the trophies, Interisti enjoy them more than anyone else.

“This is how I think but first of all you need to be a professional, otherwise everything else is worth nothing.”
