Inter are just one step away from completing the signing coup of Diego Godin according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.

Godin’s deal at Atletico Madrid is due to expire at the end of the current campaign with him then expected to sign a multi-year deal with Inter upon its expiration.

As part of their report, the Milan based newspaper have looked at the strong bond between Godin and current manager Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.

Simeone arrived just over a year after Godin did at the Spanish club and they quickly struck up a strong working relationship – one that still exists to this very day.

‘El Cholo’ Simeone, who spent some of his playing career at Inter, never gets himself involved in club matters such as contracts but the Milan based newspaper insist that he would have have fought tooth and nail to keep Godin around, due to the relationship he has with the player, had the negotiations between the player and Inter not been at such an advanced stage.
