Edin Dzeko and Luka Jovic have been mooted as two potential replacements for Mauro Icardi should the Argentine leave Inter in the summer.

Icardi remains at loggerheads with the club after being stripped of the captaincy last Wednesday and has reportedly fallen out with his teammates, making it likely he will be sold at the end of the season.

Before sanctioning his departure however Inter would need to identify a suitable replacement, with Lautaro Martinez not yet ready to lead the line for Luciano Spalletti’s side.

Gazzetta dello Sport today suggested Roma striker Dzeko could be one of the players Inter pursue should Icardi leave, having already been linked to the Nerazzurri in the past.

The Milanese publication said the Bosnian would be the ideal strike partner for Martinez to help the 21-year-old develop, but also admitted a move for Dzeko was ‘pure theory’ at the moment.

Jovic, 21, has scored 20 goals in all competitions for Eintracht Frankfurt this season and will face Inter in the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League after they were drawn against the German side yesterday.

Eintracht will sign Jovic for €10 million on a permanent basis from Benfica at the end of the season, having initially acquired the Serbian on a two-year loan, but would want €40 million to part company with him this summer.

Barcelona are interested in the forward and it would not be an easy target for Inter to pursue.
