Mauro Icardi is ‘in a corner’ at the moment as his war of nerves with Inter and the rest of the squad continues, Corriere dello Sport wrote on Saturday.

Icardi was stripped of the captaincy last Wednesday and has not featured for the Nerazzurri in any of their three matches since, all of which his teammates have won.

Both Inter and the rest of the squad continue to use conciliatory tones in public in an attempt to ease the tension surrounding the forward, but behind those kind words Icardi remains an isolated figure at the club.

“More than the club, it’s his teammates who have backed him into the corner he’s now in,” Corriere dello Sport explained.

“It’s true that everyone is saying ‘we’re waiting for him’ whenever they’re asked about it, but behind that there are other words and gestures which suggest Icardi is more ‘out’ than ‘in’ at the moment.

“This is why, before any progress can be made, Icardi needs to sort out his differences inside the dressing room.”

The Rome-based paper also cited comments made by vice-president Javier Zanetti on Friday, who said Icardi ‘needs to clear things up with the group’, as confirmation of the broken relationship between the ex-captain and the rest of the squad.
