Marino: “Some Inter Players Felt Icardi No Longer Represented Them As Captain”

Pierpaolo Marino has shared his opinion on what he believes the root of the problem between Inter and Mauro Icardi is.

The Argentine striker was recently stripped of the Inter captaincy with tension currently high between the 26-year-old and the Nerazzurri.

“The key to the problem is not the contract renewal talks,” he insisted in an interview with CalcioMercato.it.

“The problem lies in the cohabitation with the locker room. The players felt discouraged with him as captain. The leadership has only ratified the situation.

He went on to add: “Some players no longer felt represented by him because he allowed his wife to make statements against some of the players in the side.”

As part of the interview he also addressed the idea of a swap deal involving Icardi and Juventus’ Paulo Dybala.

“An exchange with Paulo Dybala is possible but honestly I do not believe in the idea all that much.”
