A delighted Cagliari manager Rolando Maran was beaming with pride as he spoke to the media after his side picked up a victory over Inter.

The Rossoblu took the lead through captain Luca Cepitelli on the half hour mark but Inter got quickly back in the game thanks to Lautaro Martinez. It wasn’t long until Cagliari went back ahead though as Leonardo Pavoletti scored just before half time. There were to be no goals in the second half and the game ended 2-1.

“The lads put in an incredible performance in all aspects. We had quality, creating many chances in the first half, determination and character. It was a night to remember,” Maran said in an interview with Sky Sport Italia.

“We beat a great team like Inter with a fantastic performance in a difficult time for us. We pulled out the perfect game

He continued: “We knew that if we were too passive and sat back, it’d be hard to resist the Inter pressure, as they are deadly with crosses into the box. Instead, we focused more on making them defend and using our own strengths.”
