After the final whistle of the Cagliari-Inter game, Inter coach Luciano Spalletti had the following to say about the result to Inter TV.
“We were not ready for the physical impact and the determination of our opponents. We lost a lot of duels and the ball. As a consequence, they benefited from that and were a bit lucky when it came down to certain episodes.
“In the second half, when we started to react, the game was already a bit lost. Because if you play with a lot of anxiety and in addition fail to score on good chances – like the one Borja Valero had – it becomes hard.”
He continued: “What happened in the first half was all thanks to Cagliari. They immediately gave everything they had, having a great game. We were a bit slow in reading the ball, in reading who should put pressure on the possessor of the ball.
“There was a lot of unwillingness to pursue the situation we were in and this is what I regret the most, then in the second half we reacted and deserved something more, but now it is what it is.”
He was then asked how he will have the side approach Thursday’s match against Eintracht Frankfurt.
“There are a lot of risks but when you put on a jersey like this you have to be prepared to overcome everything, being psychologically, environmental or connected to the force of the opponent. It will always be like this, we will never have a game when everything is normal, and the strong teams have to be prepared of all the difficulties their opponents will throw at them.”
He then spoke on the recent period Inter have had.
“When you are in a positive period, it is something that becomes clear, the team becomes convinced and becomes even stronger as the minutes of each match passes but when you are in difficulties, you read that from every single disappointing result.”
