Milan have made their mind up that they want to build a new stadium rather than renovate San Siro and now they must wait and see what Inter decide to do according to a report from La Repubblica.

A new stadium would cost around €600 million to construct and would be partly funded through selling the naming rights to the stadium with the report suggesting the Milanese clubs could command €25 million a year.

The new stadium would be built on the current car park at San Siro and would be the most innovative stadium in Europe, the report continues.

The two clubs have both recently been in the United States in order to look at some of the top stadium’s as points of reference.

The clubs visited Atlanta United’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium – the stadium which has the largest retractable roof in the world.

New York Giants and New York Jets shared MetLife Stadium is another to have been visited due to the fact two rival teams share the ground.

La Repubblica’s report goes on to state that the capacity of the new stadium will be closer to 60,000 opposed to the current 80,000 capacity of San Siro. With a new stadium being built entirely from scratch, there would be no disruption as the clubs could continue to play in San Siro until the work was completed.
