Former Inter striker Roberto Acquafresca has revealed how he was on the cusp of getting his chance at the club and spoke on how he indirectly helped Inter toward winning the famous triplete.

Acquafresca was a product of Inter’s youth academy but spent the first four years after having been promoted to the first team out on loan and never made a competitive first team appearance.

“Piero Ausilio had called me and Massimo Moratti’s secretary even advised me where I should be looking to buy a house. After a few days though, Marca Branca had called to tell me that things had changed,” he told Gianlucadimarzio.com.

After a frutiful two-year long loan with Cagliari, he finally looked set to be given a chance at the Nerazzurri but was then used in a deal including Leonardo Bonucci that sent Diego Milito and Thiago Motta to Inter.

“I guess me and Leonardo Bonuccia can say that we contributed to Inter winning the triplete,” he concluded.
