Former Inter player Karl Heinz Rummenigge has spoken ahead of the Nerazzurri’s match away to Eintracht Frankfurt in his native Germany later on today.

“I will watch the game on TV and will be rooting for my old team, Inter,” he said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

Every now and then I speak with former Inter president Pellegrini, with great pleasure, but I have also met current president Zhang and he made a good impression. He was polite, he wanted to learn and understand. Inter are in good hands.”

He then spoke on Inter’s city rivals Milan and the importance of the Milanese clubs returning to previous heights.

“Milan are also in good hands. It is important for Milan to return to the top, the two teams have a global image and economic power, and their rebirth is good for all Italian football.”

Rummenigge then discussed tonight’s opponents and what Inter should be wary of.

“They are very strong in attack, with Jovic and Haller. They have been doing well for the past two years.

“It will be important to get a result in Frankfurt. Inter need to score and avoid conceding because Frankfurt are good away from home and at home Eintracht has another advantage in the shape of their fans.”

He concluded the interview by discussing the saga between Inter and Mauro Icardi.

“I have followed it, it’s a very delicate situation and it’s difficult, but now there’s Marotta,” he continued.

“He knows how to deal with the situation and Icardi has to understand that he’s playing for a big club, which means he has a responsibility toward the club, the fans and his teammates.

“It is important that the situation is clarified as soon as possible and it needs to be managed and Marotta is doing that.”
