Inter midfielder Radja Nainggolan will attempt a last-minute recovery to be available in Sunday’s Milan derby, Corriere dello Sport reported today.

Nainggolan sustained a knee injury in training last week and was expected to miss the match at San Siro, which could prove decisive in the race for Champions League qualification.

However, the Belgian has not lost hope of making Luciano Spalletti’s match-day squad and will try his utmost to regain fitness in time.

Inter were eliminated from the Europa League on Thursday evening after a 1-0 defeat against Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

Luka Jovic’s fifth-minute strike ultimately proved the difference between the two sides after an individual mistake from Stefan De Vrij.

“Inter had the excuse of being down to the bare bones last night, but they still managed to be their own worst enemy,” Corriere dello Sport said.

“Eintracht scored the goal that sent them into the quarter-finals after an individual defensive mistake, just like PSV had scored after an error from Kwadwo Asamoah in the Champions League.”
