Luigi Garlando has shared his thoughts and feelings on last night’s Derby Della Madonnina which Inter won 3-2 as part of his weekly column for Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It was a beautiful derby, one that Giovanni Trapattoni’s deserved as he turned 80. It was both exciting and passionate just like the life of Trap,” he began his column.

“Inter won because it gave more heart, more pride and because Spalletti playing Vecino as a trequartista was decisive for the win.”

Garlando then discussed Lautaro Martinez and his performance in his first derby start.

El Toro works for others. His goal and the assist drives him away from Wanda’s husband even more. The numbers say: with Icardi 10 victories out of 20 games, without: 6 out of 8. After the penalty El Toro brought a hand to his ear, only one, because he feels half of the master, for now.

He concluded by touching on Stefan de Vrij’s goal, which was Inter’s second of the game.

“The second goal was scored by de Vrij, who made a mistake on Thursday. It was another symbolic goal. The victory was born from a collective and powerful reaction of pride.”
