New Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has set a target to give the Inter squad a more Italian feel to it. As a part of this Danilo D’Ambrosio will be one of those Italian faces that will be an integral part of this transition.

The Italian international defender is a versatile player who can play anywhere along the backline. He is reliable and shows attachment to the shirt. All these traits have not gone unnoticed and it seems for this reason that D’Ambrosio will have his current contract, which ends in 2021, will be renewed by the club.

The idea is to extend for another year until 2022. Talks are already underway. The first meeting was at Christmas between the players’ agent, Vincenzo Pisacane and Inter duo of Marotta – Ausilio. The meeting served as a purpose to show Marotta what the situation is. In recent weeks he has appreciated the dedication to the cause that D’Ambrosio has shown. Being able to play at either left back or right back in a four man defence and also in the centre as part of a three man defence D’Ambrosio’s versatility is key for Inter manager Luciano Spalletti or for whoever Inter’s manager might be next season.

He is also seen as a key member of the dressing room (it is thought he has remained close to Icardi in recent weeks). Yet another meeting has taken place recently with a view to turning these talks into a formal contract offer in the summer.
