Marco Tronchetti Provera, the chief executive of Inter sponsor Pirelli, has shared his thoughts on last night’s Milan derby among other topics in an interview with ‘La Politica nel Pallone’ on Gr Parlamento.

“Inter must always create special emotions. It was a good football match, this is what the spectators want to see, with an unpredictable Inter that gave emotions and played good football,” he said.

“It is a sweet-tasting victory and must also act as a stimulus because the players’ ability is there. If they commit themselves as they did yesterday, they can continue to give great results and I hope that this is the beginning of a new series of beautiful results.”

He then spoke on comparisons between Lautaro Martinez and Mauro Icardi and Icardi’s situation.

“Lautaro is different to Icardi. He is a playmaker who knows how to free up his teammates well. He has the vision of a playmaker and he is strong. If he can continue like he has been, he can become a top player.”

“Icardi meanwhile is a great player and with him upfront, Inter’s attack is very strong.

“I hope that everything can be worked out. It is important that everyone works together. I hope that the controversy will soon end and that we have a great Inter with a very strong dressing room.

“Icardi-Dybala swap deal? I do not wish to talk about this. Icardi will stay with Inter until the end.”

He also touched upon Inter manager Luciano Spalletti.

“The locker room must be united, the coach’s authority must not be questioned. You must always be on the side of the coach.”

Tronchetti Provera then discussed Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta.

“He can give Inter a lot, he has a unique level of experience. He has all the quality required to help build a great team. Juventus are still far away though and are in a different league to everyone else.

He concluded by speaking on the idea of a new stadium for the Milanese clubs.

“Juve have proved that with the new stadium you can do wonderful things. San Siro is in my heart and abandoning it would be hard but this is subjective. A stadium with more compact dimensions is without doubt a contribution to the team’s successes.”
