Mauro Icardi is expected to return to Inter’s match-day squad when the Nerazzurri face Lazio after the conclusion of the international break, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Icardi took part in first-team training yesterday for the first time since being stripped of the captaincy on 13 February, before following a personalised program in the afternoon to treat his knee injury.

Icardi will continue to split his time between group work and individual training for the next 4-5 days but will ‘probably’ return to Luciano Spalletti’s squad for the match with the Biancoceleste.

He is unlikely to start at San Siro, however, due to both his precarious physical condition and Lautaro Martinez’s excellent run of form.

Beppe Marotta, Piero Ausilio and Giovanni Gardini were all present at Appiano Gentile to oversee training as Spalletti and Icardi shook hands and appeared to ratify a truce until the summer.

“Icardi has made himself completely available to the club and the manager [again],” Gazzetta reported on Friday.

“He’s very eager to rejoin the group and for now that will do.”
