Ivan Rakitic played an important part in Croatia’s comeback victory over Azerbaijan last night and his performance, as per a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, further convinced Inter’s management.

The Barcelona midfield maestro is under contract through to the end of the 2020/21 season and it still remains to be seen whether or not he will be handed a new contract renewal.

The Blaugrana have already signed Ajax starlet Frenkie de Jong for next season and are expected to sign PSG’s Adrien Rabiot once his contract expires at the end of the season.

The signings of de Jong and Rabiot certainly cast doubt over Rakitic’s future with the club who he has played for since 2014.

Should there be further distance put between him and the Spanish giants, Inter would be ready to make a move, especially if they are to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

This season the 31-year-old has made 42 appearances, scoring five goals and tallying nine assists in the process.
