Andrea Pirlo has shared his opinion on the recent controversy surrounding Mauro Icardi at Inter.

The 26-year-old Argentine striker was last month stripped of the Inter captaincy and has not played for the club since citing a knee injury behind his absence from the first team.

Last week he made a return to training and it remains to be see if he will be available for selection for this weekend’s match at home to Lazio.

“Inter are still there. Those who don’t play lose value: if Icardi had still been frozen out, who would’ve wanted him?,” he said in an interview with Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Inter have another striker: how will Icardi come back after being out for so long? There would have been less mess if everything had been made less public, less social.”

He was also asked who he thinks will finish in the top three places in the league.

“The same three that are there today, even though Lazio are doing well right now,” he continued.

“Napoli are holding their own because they were already strong. Inter could’ve done more but slowed down at certain decisive moments, had injuries and then there was the Icardi saga.”
