Former Inter manager Luigi ‘Gigi’ Simoni has shared his opinion on the recent controversy surrounding Mauro Icardi at Inter.
“Almost the entire situation, was born out of something that could not have been any more unusual. I have never seen anything like it in my 60 years in football.
“It is not at all easy to manage certain situations but if Wanda Nara had not gone onto television every Sunday, perhaos the situation would not have been like this.
“The figures of her husband’s contract renewal should not be discussed in public but only in the Inter headquarers. Wanda said some things about Icardi’s teammates, something they surely didn’t like.
He also touched upon Ivan Perisic requesting a transfer away from the club in the January transfer window.
“I’m sorry that someone does not realise that Inter is a great club and being part of it is a huge honour.”
He concluded his column by discussing the future of Icardi at the club.
“Before selling a player such as Icardi, who I consider to be the best striker in the league, I would not think once but multiple times.
“There are very few players around who are like Icardi and I do not think that they are available on the market.
“I have read about a possible exchange with Dybala however I do not think it is an easy route to go down because both Juve and Inter want extra cash in their favour. I would avoid selling Icardi to Juventus.”
