Former Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani has shared his disappointment at San Siro potentially being demolished to make way for a new ground.

“I can’t deny that on a romantic level for those like me who went to the stadium as a boy, the hypothesis of the demolition or simply the abandonment of San Siro is a great pain,” he told Corriere della Sera.

“As the stadium is an essential component to allow the two Milanese clubs to return to the glories of the past, I cannot fail to share the line that Milan and Inter need to equip themselves with a new ground.

“The most logical decision is to design a new stadium in the area adjacent to San Siro, perfectly served by the underground and a functional road system.”

Galliani concluded the interview by speaking further on the idea of demolition.

“The demolition comes down to the Milan council. They can take it down, modify it, use it for non-football events. I say this as a fan of Milan, a citizen of Milan and a great fan of football without wishing to influence decisions that are the responsibility of the council and the two companies. Considering that it was built in 1926, the costs to modernise it would be enormous.”
