Inter & Milan ‘Could Leave San Siro’, Rossoneri Owner Confirms

Inter and Milan could leave San Siro and build a new stadium which generates more revenue for the two clubs, Rossoneri president Paolo Scaroni confirmed today.

Rumours San Siro could be demolished has sparked an outcry on social media this week both from supporters and journalists.

However, Scaroni told reporters at an event in Milan on Friday that it might be a necessary move if both clubs want to start winning trophies again.

“In order to win in football you need good players that cost a lot of money, so as a club you have to generate profits,” he said.

“With the introduction of Financial Fair Play you can no longer rely on the owner pouring money into the club, you need revenue.

“Your stadium needs to be cost-effective, it has to have a modern structure. At the Bernabeu there are seven restaurants which operate every day: that’s the model we need to follow.

“In theory, you could renovate San Siro instead of demolishing it and building a new stadium.

“The problem though is that it would take a huge amount of building work, which means we would need to play away from home for a few years, in somewhere like Parma, Verona or Varese. That’s the dilemma.”

Scaroni also appeared to rule out the possibility of one club keeping San Siro and another building a new stadium for itself.

“Inter and Milan are allies in this project,” he assured.

“It’s more economical for us to share the same stadium – everything I say is based on studies carried out by consultants around the world.”
