Rome based newspaper La Repubblica have taken a look at Inter manager Luciano Spalletti’s handling of the Mauro Icardi situation at the club over the past few days.

“On Sunday night at San Siro, wounded by the defeat against Lazio, he raged about Mauro Icardi, who he did not call up for the game. 36 hours later, at the press conference to discuss tonight’s match at Genoa’s, he brought everything back.

“Changing the mind of the coach was the call back to reality which came from the chief executive Beppe Marotta who brought the coach and the training ground back to where the Chinese ownership wants them to be.”

The report continues: “Spalletti – given his pending departure from Inter in June, as well as Icardi – has accepted the fact that the leadership is not willing to tolerate slipping out of the Champions League zone due to lack of goals due to the economic disaster that would ensue.”
