Inter have revived their interest for Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, Tuttosport reported today.
The Nerazzurri are keen to overhaul their options in midfield with the aim of bringing in two new players for next season, one of which will be a ‘top player’.
Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic, who could be available for €40 million, remains the preferred candidate for their high-profile signing, with Mateo Kovacic, Toni Kroos and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic also linked.
However, Pellegrini stands a chance of becoming the other player Inter sign in that department, with chief executive Beppe Marotta keen to create a block of Italian players in the dressing room.
The Italian has a €30 million release clause in his contract at Roma which would be payable in two blocks of €15 million, making him an easier target to sign than others, most notably Cagliari’s Nicolo Barella.
Matias Vecino is attracting interest from clubs in Spain and England and could be sold to finance a move for the 22-year-old.
Inter are also monitoring Brescia’s Sandro Tonali, Red Bull Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai, Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and Udinese’s Rodrigo De Paul ahead of the summer.
