Inter have identified Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic and Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan as two ambitious transfer targets in midfield for this summer, according to Tuttosport.

The Nerazzurri are looking to sign a high-profile player to partner Marcelo Brozovic next season after failing to bring Luka Modric to San Siro last year.

Rakitic first became a target several weeks ago while Gundogan’s name is gaining traction as the summer approaches, but neither player will be simple to acquire

The Croatian, 31, is likely to see his game time reduced at Barcelona next season following the signing of Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, while the club are unwilling to extend his current contract which expires in 2021.

However, he earns €6.5 million in wages and would only be available for around €60 million as things stand.

Gundogan, 29, will enter the final year of his contract at City in July and would therefore cost less, but his salary of €8 million could prove a difficult obstacle to any deal.
