Following Inter’s 3-1 win away to Frosinone this evening. Inter manager Luciano Spalletti shared his thoughts on the game in an interview with broadcaster Sky Sport.
“We saw that the moment we feel remotely safe or comfortable, we can run into a devastating setback. We’ve got to stay on our toes at all times,” he began.
“It happens to everyone, but more so to a team like us. It can happen that when you lower the intensity, you become more timid and the others have nothing to lose and this made the game very difficult. They wanted to play an important game. That’s what made it a very difficult test for us, because Frosinone could play with clear heads and no pressure.
“It all depends on how you pass it around and prepare. If your defenders are passing in midfield, then you only need a few metres to run forward and get into the space to score. It’s all about how you control the game and use possession to build rather than be predictable.”
Spalletti went on to praise the defence and what he thinks the team still need to work on.
“The big advantage for us is having a very solid back line, not leaving gaps at the back or taking unnecessary risks. It’s happened to us a few times that we don’t kill games off, so evidently that’s something we still need to work on.”
He then spoke on Radja Nainggolan’s performance.
“Nainggolan ran well, he used his physicality to keep the ball, even when the passes weren’t that clean. He was the real Nainggolan tonight.”
He concluded by speaking on the condition of Borja Valero who was forced off due to injury.
“Borja Valero felt a muscle pull and I think he’s going to be out for a little while.”
