Despite looking unlikely in recent weeks, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has admitted he will soon be in contact with Inter linked Ivan Rakitic over a new and improved deal with the club.

“He has a contract and we are very happy with him,” he began an interview with TVE.

“I had a talk with him in the summer and I told him we could talk about his contract. In these months we have not discussed it for different reasons and because it is not easy to balance the wages of the teams but we will soon be in touch again. He is an indispensable player and improves every year.”

The Croatian, who is currently under contract with the Blaugrana until the end of the 2020/2021 season, was seemingly Inter’s number one target for the midfield for the Summer transfer window but they now appear to have directed their attention toward Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan.
