Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Antonio Conte is the only coach that Inter are willing to replace Luciano Spalletti with as it becomes ever increasingly likely that the former Roma coach stays with the Nerazzurri.

“The race for Champions League qualification seems to be going well and remains the difference between a sporting and economic disaster” the Gazzetta reports continuing that should Spalletti leave Inter the Nerazzurri will be looking for an Italian solution, effectively excluding Mourinho out of contention.

Furthermore, should Inter qualify for the Champions League, Luciano Spalletti’s position would become much stronger and his departure could become a reality only if an upgrade becomes available.

“Parting from the current coach, Inter would want to bring in someone who has proven record of having won more. Who has won more than Spalletti and what is their current situation? Ancelotti is tied to Napoli, Mancini is happy with the national team and then you have Conte and Allegri.”

“Another name being touted these recent weeks is that of Maurizio Sarri however he is not seen as coach that is a bigger winner than Spalletti. The same arguments are being applied to Tottenham’s Mauricio Pocchettino.”

“However, there is an economic aspect to consider here as well. Conte will ask for wages of around €11.6 million net per season over a three year period whilst Spalletti has two years left on his contract which see him earn €5 million net per season. This means that sacking Spalletti together with his staff, would alone cost Inter €20 million gross, which would definitely affect the club’s adherence to Financial Fair Play rules.”

“This is more than enough as to why the club’s owners are reflecting, and have to be absolutely certain that a change on the bench would in no uncertain terms improve the team’s chances for next season. If not the Zhang’s see no reason to see a coach who has delivered on the most important objectives, leave the club.”
