Former Inter defender Guilherme Siqueira has spoken on his time at the club a few months on from being forced to retire from football aged 32 due to injury.

“I could no longer play and then I chose to end my career. The pain was too much, I suffered a lot. So I said enough is enough,” he began an interview with Spanish newspaper AS.

“Retiring is always is a difficult decision for any player to make. I was at an important moment in my career. I played in important teams but my performances were affected by ankle problems and I had to make a decision.”

The Brazilian full back joined Inter’s youth academy in 2004 and spent two years in it before transferring to Lazio and he spoke on the difficulties of leaving his homeland on his own at 16.

“For a young person it is not easy to leave their country and at the time it was not like now where there is so much technology that somehow manages to clear the distances. I was very focused on my work and football paid me back.

“It all started at Inter. I learned a lot and it is thanks to the years in the Nerazzurri that I arrived prepared in Spain.”
