Following further unsavoury incidents in Italian football in recent days, the Lega Serie A have come out and conemded the actions of the individuals involved.

Yesterday a portion of Lazio fans unfurled a banner dedicated to Benito Mussolini and chanted fascist songs on their trip to Milan for the Coppa Italia quarter final, which they won 1-0.

Moreover, there were several instances of racist abuse from Lazio fans directed toward Milan midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko both inside and outside San Siro.

Such incidents are not limited to just Lazio with several other clubs punished recently including Inter.

“The Serie A League strongly condemns the episodes of racism that have occurred in recent days,” Lega Serie A’s statement begins.

“Sport must exalt respect, inclusion and being together in harmony, values that are the basis of the social initiatives that have always been promoted by Lega Serie A.

“It is not acceptable to have such things happen in our stadiums as has happened in the past. With the changes made to the code of Sporting Justice, we will do everything in our power to counter such events and identify and punish those responsible for their actions which damage our image around the world.”
