Luciano Spalletti has insisted that he did all he could to change the game in Inter’s favour following Inter’s goalless draw with Udinese.
“We misplaced a few too many passes and our actions became less precise as the game progressed,” he began an interview with DAZN post-match in Udine.
“We ought to build on the first half performance and continue playing like that. When we do find the gaps between the lines, it’s important that we do better with our finishing.
“There were situations we should’ve made more of, as if a team gets the ball in the six-yard box 10 times, there ought to be at least one goal and not just a series of corners.
“At the start, we did what we needed to, but weren’t precise enough after the break. We kept a lot of possession and in my view that does pay off the in the long run.”
He then spoke on why he started Lautaro Martinez over Mauro Icardi.
“We have a certain balance that needs to be maintained and in fact Udinese started to threaten more once we had two strikers on.”
He concluded by sharing his disappointment with his substitutes
“I would’ve expected more from Keita and Antonio Candreva, who came on in the final 10 minutes when opposition legs were tired, but didn’t create many difficulties.
“I threw on three attacking players to finish the game and there was nothing more I could’ve done in the circumstances. We played the game we needed to, Udinese prepared to defend and counter, but we did have the chances to score.”
