Milano based newspaper Corriere della Sera reports today that Inter have not improved one iota this season, when compared to the season before.

According to the report, the blame is to be firmly placed on coach Luciano Spalletti who has failed to build on his first season at the club.

“Last season Spalletti brought Inter back to the Champions League after six seasons, and this season he has often underlined the development that his team had made this season, however the numbers and stats tell a different story.”

“Inter can end up in third place in the Serie A, improving on last season’s fourth place finish, but even if the Nerazzurri win their remaining three matches they will end up on 72 points, which is the exact same tally as last season.”

“The gap to second placed Napoli has been reduced but that is mainly due to them having a poorer season rather than Inter improving. The manner in which Inter plays has also not improved, not from a aesthetic point of view but from strictly a numerical perspective.”

“Mauro Icardi scored 29 goals last season, this season he has managed 10 and has not scored in open play since December 2nd. Ivan Perisic ended last season on 11 goals, this season he has so far scored 7. The duo, despite their diminished number of goals, remain Inter’s top two marksmen.”

“The team has become worse offensively as well as defensively, having scored 6 fewer goals in respect to the previous season and have conceded two more goals as well.”
