Joao Mario could return to his native Portugal in the summer after being linked with a move to Porto.

The midfielder has made 68 appearances for the Nerazzurri since signing for €40 million in 2016 but has failed to live up to expectations, spending the second half of last season on loan at West Ham.

A Bola today reported Porto boss Sergio Conceicao would like to sign the 26-year-old to replace Hector Herrera, who will leave the Portuguese champions on a free transfer this summer.

Inter would need to recoup €20 million for Joao Mario in order to avoid making a net loss.

Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio are planning to revamp the team’s options in midfield this summer with Mario, Borja Valero and Matias Vecino all at risk of leaving.

Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic re-emerged as the Nerazzurri’s main target in Friday’s papers but Cagliari’s Nicolo Barella continues to be linked with a move to San Siro as well.
