Matteo Politano’s agent Davide Lippi has confirmed that Inter will take up their option to sign him permanently at the end of the season and that he has not been surprised by his client’s performances this season.
“The decisive impact that he has made in a great club like Inter hasn’t surprised me at all. I was sure since he arrived last summer that he would have carved out his space in the team to become a strong player for the team and a fan favourite.
“He is part of a generation that can bring Italian football back up and reignite enthusiasm for the national team. There is a young group there with great potential and talent and Matteo is one of them.
“Matteo is a serious individual and one of those decent people that you can’t not love. On the field, he does not feel the pressure and in fact he was not affected in the slightest by the jump from Sassuolo to Inter. You do not play more than 40 matches as a starter for Inter in the first year by chance.”
Asked what he thinks Politano could improve he responded: “I always tell him he must score more goals. He gets a lot of chances to shoot but I am convinced that next season he will score more goals.”
He then went on to speak on the effect Luciano Spalletti has had on his client’s growth and Spalletti’s future as manager.
“Spalletti was really good at helping him grow. He gave Matteo confidence and space.
“The rumours of a change on the bench between Spalletti and Conte? These things are part of the game, but there can be no doubts about Spalletti’s good work over the past two years.”
He was then asked if Inter will take up their redemtpion option.
“Yes. There is no doubt about it. He has done very well and he is happy at Inter.”
He concluded the interview by speaking on one of his other clients on Inter’s books in Tomasso Berni and his future with the Nerazzurri.
“Tommy is a splendid boy, one of those genuine and very important people within a group. The club is happy and we will soon meet to define the renewal for another season, we will go forward together.
“He has always made himself available in these years, carving out an important role for his teammates. You can be precious inside the locker room even if you play little.”
