Antonio Conte will not replace Max Allegri as Juventus boss this summer because he has already agreed to join Inter, Gazzetta dello Sport confirmed today.
Conte was touted as a front-runner to replace Allegri when rumours first began circulating about the latter’s probable departure, with official confirmation arriving yesterday afternoon.
However, the Italian has not rebuilt his bridges with owner Andrea Agnelli after leaving during pre-season in 2014 and in any case is already poised to join Inter.
“Conte has promised himself to Inter for an ambitious three-year project alongside Beppe Marotta and Lele Oriali, having already worked alongside the latter with the Italian national team,” Gazzetta said.
“He’ll sign a contract worth €9 million per season, making him the highest paid Italian coach in football.”
Simone Inzaghi, Didier Deschamps, Sinisa Mihajlovic and Maurizio Sarri are the current favourites to replace Allegri after Juventus announced he would be leaving at the end of his fifth season in charge.
Jose Mourinho’s name has also been mentioned but Gazzetta moved swiftly to rule him out of the running as well.
“He doesn’t seem to be in the mix given his past frictions with the club when he was winning the triplete at Inter,” they wrote.
