Mauro Icardi does not want Inter supporters to view him as a traitor if he leaves the club this summer, according to Tuttosport.
The forward told supporters on Instagram yesterday he had no intention of moving elsewhere at the end of the season, denying reports on Friday he wished to join Juventus.
The Turin-based paper believes his comments were an attempt to ensure Inter will have to take full responsibility for any eventual departure.
“Icardi wants to spread the message that it’s the club and not the player who wants to part ways,” they reported today.
“Inter would only consider sending Icardi to Juventus if they could set up a swap deal with Paulo Dybala, otherwise they will look to sell him abroad.
“In any case, by making these comments Icardi is trying to rebuild his bridges with a fan base which has progressively disowned him over the last few months.”
Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku and Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey are two players Inter continue to monitor with interest, and it is not implausible they could look for swap deals with those clubs.
