Inter manager Luciano Spalletti spoke with the gathered media in the press room at the Stadio San Paolo after Napoli battered the Nerazzurri 4-1.

“We did not do well defensively whilst the general approach was also bad. We started well and produced what we wanted to but then we made some errors and after the first goal we got a little bit disjointed and got worse as things progressed,” he began.

“Napoli presses well and it is difficult to play against their press. In the second half we wanted to do something different.”

He then went on to explain why Lautaro Martinez started over Mauro Icardi.

“Lautaro is better at linking up with the midfielders and with Napoli’s pressing we needed that. Icardi is a finisher.”

Asked if he thinks given the differences between Inter and Napoli the 13 point gap is fair he responded: “I don’t know, these are assessments that you have to make. I have always tried to do my best. There was a bigger gap last year.”

He concluded by responding to a question regarding his future: “I don’t look ahead any further than tomorrow. It’s useless to look any further ahead.”
