Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport discusses Mauro Icardi’s situation at Inter after his goal against Napoli on Sunday, in what could be the former captain’s last game for the Nerazzurri.

“Icardi is having a difficult time just like most of the team in the season finale. His goal in Inter’s 4-1 defeat at the San Paolo meant nothing, but it was his first goal after six games without beating a goalkeeper. After he was stripped of his captaincy, he has no longer been a key fixture of Spalletti’s team.”

“Thinking back to the first game of the season, he was the man from which Inter were going to build their whole project around. It seems a lifetime has passed since then, as he is already immortalized in Inter’s history books as one of their top goal scorers, but the events of this season have shown the bad side of the Argentine.”

“While these actions are almost impossible for many to forgive, Mauro does not want to leave, as he reinstated on Friday on Instagram. He is ready to speak with President Zhang, with whom he will ask for a meeting with before the Copa America or the holidays, depending on if he is selected.”

“Regardless of Conte’s arrival, the club seems determined to sell him. They’d prefer an exchange over capital gains. But first there is Empoli to overcome, an opponent who Icardi has scored six goals against and never lost too 5 wins, 1 draw, but will he even play?”
