Mauro Icardi is expected to get the nod ahead of Lautaro Martinez to start for Inter in their season-defining match against Empoli tomorrow night.

Inter must beat Empoli at San Siro to guarantee Champions League qualification after last week’s atrocious defeat to Napoli, with 70,000 fans expected to turn up for the game.

Lautaro played poorly at the Stadio San Paolo and is likely to return to the bench in favour of Icardi, who started Inter’s previous game at home to Chievo.

Luciano Spalletti does not have any other major doubts over the starting XI he will pick and is likely to make three changes to the team that started seven days ago.

Stefan De Vrij and Matias Vecino are expected to join Icardi in the new line-up tomorrow, with Miranda and Roberto Gagliardini dropping to the bench.

Inter’s probable starting XI (4-2-3-1): Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, De Vrij, Skriniar, Asamoah; Vecino, Brozovic; Politano, Nainggolan, Perisic; Icardi.
