Inter will welcome around 70,000 supporters to San Siro when they face Empoli in their final match of the season tomorrow evening.

The Nerazzurri must win if they are to secure qualification for next season’s Champions League but their opponents could also need a result in order to avoid relegation.

It remains to be seen whether the packed crowd will have a positive or negative effect on Luciano Spalletti’s mentally fragile side.

“If on the one hand the club have invited fans to arrive early and turn the stadium into a fortress, on the other hand the pressure emanating from the stands could become counter-productive,” Gazzetta dello Sport explained.

“There’s a risk that supporters will get restless if Inter don’t score early on and this could influence a team that isn’t known for its strength of personality.

“The Curva Nord has promised to support the team until the final minute of stoppage time, but also to wage ‘war’ on the players after full-time if they don’t get the job done. The rest of the stadium will be less threatening but probably less patient as well.”
