Legendary Inter defender Tarcisio Burgnich has discussed Inter’s qualification for next season’s Champions League in an exclusive interview with FCInter1908.it.

“Inter was technically much superior to their opponents. To define the players I have to say that they are children of a good woman. When there is a club that wobbles, I think they take advantage of it,” he began.

“They are excellent players, but they play for themselves and not as a collective. If they played for each other, Inter would not have reached this point, but would have qualified much earlier and would not have suffered so much.”?

He was then asked if he thinks any of the recent speculation has had an impact on the team in recent weeks.

“No, it has nothing to do with it, because players, in order to try to stand out with the new coach, should do everything to do well.

Burgnich also spoke on the impact that the home crowd at San Siro have on things.

“San Siro always counts a lot, because supporting the team is important and it certainly was yesterday too. Inter fans are always extraordinary.”

He then discussed Mauro Icardi’s missed penalty and difficult season.

“Anyone can miss a penalty, it is something that has happened to everyone, even to Pele. We have to look at other things such as his participation or his ability to put the team on his shoulders. The problem he has is more general though. Everyone has seen and heard too much about his off-field problems this season.”

The 80-year-old then shared his thoughts on Antonio Conte’s pending arrival at the Nerazzurri and if it will bring a sense of belonging to the club.

“I believe that everything starts from the club itself, which should not give players the chance to take advantage of any wobbles. We need to create a united environment to face the next challenges. I met Marotta, I expect him to build a quality team. Situations like those of this season can no longer happen.”
