Ivan Perisic is likely to stay at Inter and become a key player under new boss Antonio Conte, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Perisic was thought certain to leave the club this summer after a disappointing 2018-19 season, with the Croatian submitting a transfer request during the January window amid interest from Arsenal.

However, Conte will aim to ‘recover’ the winger and ensure he is an important figure in the Nerazzurri’s new-look side.

Perisic was previously offered to Manchester United during negotiations for outgoing striker Romelu Lukaku, whom Inter have identified as their no. 1 target to replace Mauro Icardi.

It now seems though as if he will once again be retained, despite a string of sub-par performances which have turned the club’s supporters against him.

Conte was officially unveiled as Luciano Spalletti’s replacement on Friday morning before the Italian flew out to Madrid to attend Saturday’s Champions League final with Inter’s management.
