Inter have made a preliminary enquiry for Roma defender Kostas Manolas, according to Sport Mediaset.
The Nerazzurri have already secured Atletico Madrid centre-back Diego Godin ahead of the coming season but Antonio Conte would like another high-profile reinforcement.
Manolas, who turns 28 on June 14, has a €36 million release clause and is also being courted by Juventus, with the Bianconeri seeking a replacement for the now-retired Andrea Barzagli.
Inter have only made an enquiry for the moment but could step up their pursuit later in the summer.
Conte intends to play with a three-man defence next season and can currently count upon Godin, Milan Skriniar, Stefan De Vrij and Andrea Ranocchia, with Danilo D’Ambrosio also capable of moving in from right-back.
Alessandro Bastoni is due to return from a season-long loan with Parma but Inter could send the 20-year-old out again next season in order to give him further experience in Serie A.
