Inter are closer than they have ever been before tonight to securing the arrival of midfielder Nicolo Barella from Cagliari, Sky Sport understands.

Barella’s agent Alessandro Beltrami visited the Nerazzurri’s offices in Milan earlier today and confirmed his client would be very happy to join the club.

Inter must now reach an agreement with Cagliari to complete the signing, with Rossoblu president Tommaso Giulini firm on his valuation of €50 million.

The parties are expected to close a deal by including a couple of Inter’s younger players as makeweights.

Barella made 35 appearances for Cagliari during the 2018-19 season, scoring once and providing four assists as Rolando Maran’s side preserved their Serie A status with one game to spare.

The 22-year-old has made five appearances for the Italian national team and will be involved in the Azzurri’s UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers against Greece and Bosnia next week.

Inter are also thought to be close to the signing of striker Edin Dzeko from Roma.
