Inter could receive help from am unexpected source in their pursuit of Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella.

Gazzetta dello Sport today reported the clubs have agreed to meet each other shortly to commence negotiations, with the 22-year-old said to be ‘pushing’ for a move to the Nerazzurri.

Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini remains adamant he wants €45-50 million for Barella but he is open to the idea of Inter including other players in the deal to reduce the cash portion.

The surprising development is the news Cagliari would be eager to bring Eder, who is currently playing for Inter’s sister club Jiangsu Suning, back into Serie A.

By offering Eder and one other player – perhaps centre-back Alessandro Bastoni – Inter may find the right formula to convince Cagliari to hand Barella over.

The paper also explained how Juventus could make an enquiry for Barella at some stage if Inter do not finalise a deal, with expected new boss Maurizio Sarri known to be an admirer.

Fabio Paratici could sound out the ground with Cagliari and the Italian’s entourage but at the moment there is no indication of it happening.
