Inter stepped up their pursuit of Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella this afternoon by meeting the player’s agent at the club’s offices in Milan, according to Sky Sport.

Alessandro Beltrami confirmed Barella is keen to join the Nerazzurri during the meeting, although a deal remains distant with Cagliari continuing to ask for €50 million.

Inter may also have taken the opportunity to discuss Radja Nainggolan, another client of Beltrami’s, but it is unconfirmed.

Negotiations are expected to speed up in the coming days as the club chase what would be their second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Diego Godin from Atletico Madrid.

Barella has five caps for the Italian national team after making his senior debut in October 2018.

The 22-year-old made 35 appearances for Cagliari during the 2018-19 season, scoring once and providing four assists.

Inter are likely to make two high-profile signings in midfield with Antonio Conte requesting a squad revamp before the new campaign.
