Inter are set to be priced out of a move for Ajax’s promising midfielder Donny Van de Beek, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri began negotiating for the 22-year-old back in February when he would have been available at a reasonable price,

However, Ajax’s Champions League exploits against Real Madrid and Juventus have seen Van de Beek’s price tag rocket skywards and a deal is no longer feasible.

“The road that leads to Van de Beek is virtually inaccessible for Inter now, which explains why the arrival of the player’s representatives in Milan yesterday didn’t peak Inter’s interest,” the paper reported this morning.

While Van de Beek moves progressively further away from Inter, another midfielder, namely Nicolo Barella, moves ever closer to joining the Nerazzurri.

Inter and Cagliari are expected to commence formal negotiations this week, with attention already focused on which Inter players the Rossoblu would like to take as part of the deal.

“Cagliari have identified Sebastiano Esposito and Federico Dimarco as two interesting profiles, but they would especially want Alessandro Bastoni (for whom a permanent deal would be impossible) or Ionut Radu, if they sell Alessio Cragno to Roma,” Corriere continued.

“A move for Andrea Pinamonti is not out of the question either.”

Inter will attempt to guarantee themselves a first option on any players they sell to Cagliari, although the recent modification of rules relating to buy-back clauses in Serie A will make their life harder.
