Inter face an uphill battle to complete a deal for Manchester City right-back Danilo as manager Pep Guardiola is eager to keep hold of the Brazilian.

City completed an unprecedented domestic treble in the 2018-19 season with victories in the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup.

Today the BBC reported Guardiola wants to retain the majority of his current players ahead of the new campaign, including Danilo and Fabian Delph.

Inter were heavily linked to the 27-year-old in April with reports of a €15 million offer on the table, but City rejected it after deeming it to be too low.

Danilo’s contract with the Premier League champions does not expire until 2022, making it difficult for the Nerazzurri to mount a serious assault on the player.

Inter will sign a right-back this summer after deciding not to exercise their option to buy for Southampton defender Cedric Soares.

Antonio Conte’s desire to adopt a three-man defence for next season, however, could push the club into signing a player who is more comfortable as a wing-back.
