Inter could beat Manchester City to the signing of Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to reports in Portugal.

Fernandes seemed certain to join the Premier League champions until recently, but City are having second thoughts and talks have slowed.

O Jogo today suggested Inter could take advantage of the impasse to reach an agreement with Sporting and bring the 24-year-old back to Italy, where he has already played for Novara, Udinese and Sampdoria.

Joao Mario could be included as part of the deal as Sporting are keen to bring him back to the club after selling him to Inter in 2016.

Fernandes scored 32 goals and provided 18 assists for Sporting during the 2018-19 season, including three goals and two assists in the UEFA Europa League.

He has also made 11 appearances for the Portuguese national team since making his senior debut back in November 2017, scoring once in a 1-1 friendly draw against the United States.
