Matteo Politano took to social media today to wish his Italy teammates luck in their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers, after an ankle injury forced him to withdraw from the Azzurri’s training camp.

The 25-year-old stood a chance of starting for Roberto Mancini’s side against Greece and Bosnia but will now be forced to watch from the sidelines.

Politano is expected to be purchased on a permanent basis for Inter when his season-long loan deal from Sassuolo expires on 30 June.

The forward tweeted: “I’m sorry I can’t play with my teammates and stay within the Italy family because of this small injury. In the meantime I’ll be your first supporter!”
