Andrea Pinamonti will not want to be a bit part player for Inter next season when he returns from his loan spell at Frosinone, Gazzetta dello Sport warned today.

Pinamonti scored five goals for the Ciociari as they were relegated back to Serie B and has netted twice so far in Italy’s under-20 World Cup campaign.

The 20-year-old would like a chance to show his worth next year after demonstrating his personality and goal-scoring ability in 2018-19.

“Who knows whether, like Francesco Totti did at Euro 2000, Pinamonti told his teammates what he was about to do from the penalty spot when he stepped up against Poland in Italy’s last 16 match,” Gazzetta wondered.

“That phrase Totti uttered to Gigi Di Biagio before catching Edwin Van der Sar by surprise” – ‘mo glie faccio il cucchiaio’, translating as ‘I’m going to ‘panenka’ him’ – “in the semi-final against Holland has gone down in history.

“But we’re going to be talking about Pinamonti’s strike against Poland for a long time as well.

“Leaving talent and personality to one side, you also need a bit of madness to try a penalty like that.”
